Things Had Developed Rather Differently
The person you marry is intended to become your closest confidante. Your love and trust for one another is unparalleled, and you feel safe enough to be completely yourself around them. That’s the theory, at least; in the case of Rebecca and her husband, though, things had turned out very differently.
What Rebecca assumed was her husband turned out to be nothing more than a phantom. He’d been keeping two lives, deceiving her constantly. He lied to her about his military service in the Marine Corps. He also fabricated credentials and employment history. Even worse, she learned that he had a second daughter.
