#35: TV Is a Personality
If you’re a Gen Xer or elder millennial, you were most likely part of the “MTV Generation” of the 80s and 90s. TV has always had a huge cultural influence in the US, but it really ramped up when Gen Xers were kids and teenagers. As a result, most adults these days were shaped by pop culture in more ways than they may realize.
From reruns to cartoons, late-night shows to TRL, Gen X had to watch whatever was on TV to entertain themselves. There was no such thing as Netflix, algorithms, or watch-on-demand streaming. Back in the day, you flicked through the channels, desperately searching for something you could absorb through osmosis. You got what you got, and you made due.
