#51: Google as Parent
Technology has changed a lot of things in our lives. It’s wild to wonder how different older generations would be if Google existed as they were growing up. Instead of Googling their questions, the parents of Gen X were just flying by the seat of their pants. Looking back, it may seem like they didn’t care about their kids in the same way. However, the differences are just because of the type of information that was available to them.
Mikel Jollett seems nostalgic for the “good old days” of Gen X childhood when parents were more hands-off. The irony of this tweet is that Gen X are the parents who are Googling things for their Gen Z kids. Every action is a reaction. Maybe some Gen X adults want to raise their kids differently so they don’t have to experience certain things that they lived through in the 70s and 80s.
