#11: Scouring a Glass Cooktop With Powder
Burned food seems to invite force. On an old porcelain-enamel range, a gritty cleanser and determined scrubbing could be a perfectly normal response to a stubborn ring around the burner. Glass-ceramic cooktops require a different sort of patience. Famous brands warn against abrasive powders, steel wool, rough pads, and various harsh chemicals because the smooth cooking surface can be scratched, pitted, or discolored. Interestingly, a razor blade may actually be recommended for certain burned-on spills when it is held at the proper angle with the correct scraper.
