Mysterious Causes
After helicoptering Randy’s remains off the mountain, doctors immediately went to work to discover the cause of his untimely demise. The autopsy report showed nothing out of the ordinary, which was extraordinary in and of itself. He had no fractured bones, no signs of blunt trauma, nothing at all.
Investigators speculated that he might have died from exposure or dehydration. However, they could offer nothing concrete to Randy’s family, who had been anticipating his safe return after his two-week hike up the Rocky Mountains. Again, they received heartbreaking news—the cause of his death was inconclusive and would probably remain that way forever.
