Jeff Murphy
The second person to lose his life in the treasure hunt was 53-year-old Jeff Murphy. On June 9, 2017, S&R teams discovered his remains in Yellowstone National Park. All the evidence showed that he had lost his footing on the edge of a steep slope before he came crashing into the jagged rocks 500 feet below.
Yellowstone officials said nothing else about Jeff’s death as it was an ongoing investigation. Jeff’s wife reported him missing after a few days of not hearing from her husband. She told news reporters that he died while trying to discover the location of Forrest’s mysterious treasure, suggesting that it might not even have existed at all.
