The Pirate Treasure of Machiasport
There’s a tiny town in eastern Maine that might house a cache containing millions of dollars worth of ancient treasure. The cache supposedly belonged to Samuel Bellamy, the pirate that served as an inspiration for Captain Jack Sparrow. In 1716, Samuel and his band of pirates relocated to Machiasport, built a home, and buried his treasure.
However, they didn’t stay put for long. After all, the itch to steal more loot was there, and they couldn’t scratch it without heading out to seas. In the end, Samuel and his crew of loyal pirates were captured and hanged publicly. As you can guess, he didn’t tell anyone where his vast riches were located.
