37. That’s the Smell of Progress… Or Is It?
Talking about the changing of eras, Winston Churchill really witnessed the whiplash of shifts in military tactics throughout his lifetime, his participation aside. He rode in a cavalry charge before those tactics were thrown away for the time of World War I.
There was, ironically, a general during the First World War who still thought the cavalry would be useful, which was quickly proven to be an incorrect assumption. Unfortunately, it was rapidly becoming outdated with the progress of weapons, leading up to the scariest tools of war to date.
