Family name on homes
Since Japan has a history of earthquakes and tsunamis, many homes have been destroyed there over the years. It was very sad to see the most recent tsunami from the 2010s that devastated parts of the country. But because of this, things like family names on homes instead of addresses have appeared.
That is because, after a natural disaster, the government would take a long time to make new addresses and numbers for homes that were rebuilt, so they just used their last names instead. In certain parts of the country, names are used for addresses as opposed to numbers. It has now become a pride thing as well.
