SpongeBob’s work at the Krusty Krab in SpongeBob SquarePants (1999) was inspired by creator Stephen Hillenburg’s own experience as a fry cook and lobster boiler in Maine. Before becoming an animator, Hillenburg worked in a restaurant. That firsthand experience helped shape one of television’s most recognizable workplaces.
