#12: Apollo 13
Year: 1995
There is always something risky about portraying a real-life event, especially when it comes to such a well-documented event. With all its potential complications, Ron Howard’s Apollo 13 knocked this one out of the park. Howard hired many NASA consultants to avoid such inaccuracies and was even given special permission.
The film gives an in-depth look at the notorious “successful failure” of the Apollo 13 mission that gripped a nation. Astronauts Lovell, Swigert, and Haise all survived the almost catastrophic experience and lived to tell the tale. The authentic and thrilling nature of the film gave audiences a feel of just how real this rescue mission was.
