#15: The Lion in Winter
Year: 1968
There is no denying that directors used to exaggerate and romanticize everything about old medieval-era movies. But Lion in Winter, the star-studded film about Henry II’s reign and how his sons plan on inheriting the throne, is an all-time historically accurate classic.
As far as political intrigue goes, this film is extremely close to the money. The filmmakers made no concessions to show how tense and intricate the political situation was then. While some historical references seem slightly vague at different points, its sharp dialogue certainty makes up for it.
