#16: A Bridge Too Far
Year: 1977
When real-life war veterans help filmmakers produce a film about a specific Allied troop’s military operation during the war, the result will be far more accurate. Operation Market Garden was the coordinated effort to rid the Nazis of the Netherlands as they still occupied parts of Western Europe.
The movie was released only a few decades after this historical event, so filmmakers had the opportunity to reach out to veterans who were there. As a result, the involvement of veterans was heavily felt throughout filming, lending itself to the felt accuracy of the film. The film’s composer, John Addison, and John Frost, who Anthony Hopkins portrayed in the movie, gave pointers to Hopkins on set.
