#18: Society of the Snow
Year: 2023
While many TV shows and films have dabbled in the world of fictional plane crashes leaving people stranded, nothing comes quite as close as Society of the Snow. In 1972, a plane carrying 45 people to Chile from Uruguay for an Amateur rugby game crashed in the Andes in the harshest conditions. However, by the time they were rescued, only 16 had survived the 72 days of torture.
Since the horrifying accident, many attempts have been made to capture it. Still, it is the first time family members of the deceased have allowed filmmakers to use their loved ones’ real names, adding to the film’s authenticity. From the location to the lines the actors said, this film is almost 100% accurate.
