Directed and produced by Ridley Scott, Black Hawk Down (2001) is a historical war film based on a 1999 book by the same name, written by American journalist Mark Bowden. The book and the film tell the story of the United States Black Hawk helicopter that was taken down during the Battle of Mogadishu between U.S. forces and the Somali National Alliance.
The film depicts this incident, which occurred in 1993, when the U.S. sent special forces into Somalia to bring food and humanitarian aid to the population during the Somali Civil War, which lasted two years in total.
