#5: Joyeux Noël
Year: 2005
You might not have heard of the film Joyeux Noël, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t deserving of a spot on this list. Inspired by the Christmas Truce of World War 1, this war film has somewhat surprising aspects of a Christmas film. Looking at both sides of the conflict, we see themes of brotherhood, the realities of war, and the danger of what it means to be in war.
It has been said that this film is so historically accurate that the only moment it strayed was when an abandoned cat found its way into the trenches, ensuring its safety instead of being necessarily shot by French soldiers.
