Defrost Your Fridge
One or two nights before you move, you need to make sure your fridge is completely void of food. Not only that, but there shouldn’t be any moisture in there. Moisture creates the perfect breeding grounds for bacteria, and believe us when we say you don’t want to take a whiff of stale, bacteria-laden fridge air when you unpack.
To get rid of moisture, defrost your refrigerator one or two days you pack it up. If your fridge doesn’t have a dedicated defrost mode, simply unplug the fridge and leave the doors open as widely as possible. Wipe the interior with a clean towel before packing it into your moving van.
