The Sultan of Brunei’s 50th birthday: Michael Jackson and King Charles were among the elite guests
How would you feel if you attended a birthday party that cost 27.2 million dollars? Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, gave the world a glimpse into what an extravagant celebration looks like! In 1996, the Sultan turned 50 and spared no expense in making sure his guests had a memorable time.
The two-week festivities included a Michael Jackson concert where he was the only performer, and it cost the Sultan 17 million dollars. Sixty thousand guests attended in total, including The new King Charles. A stadium was built just for this event. They held a polo match and gave dinner for 3000 people; champagne and caviar were served to everyone present. And every guest went home with a gold medal poem. What more could’ve possibly been done?
