Belshazzar’s Feast: “Sit Down, Be Humble”
Belshazzar’s infamous last party cost him his life. The Babylonian King threw a celebration for 1,000 of his friends and served them wine and beer in the ceremonial goblets from the Jerusalem temple. Unknowingly to Belshazzar, this act would seal his fate later that same night.
The vessels were meant to be pure and venerated, but the Belshazzar’s display of greed made him impure in God’s eyes. That night, as the story goes, Belshazzar was killed and his kingdom destroyed.
