Les Noces after party: Picasso and F. Scott Fitzgerald were in attendance
After the premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Les Noces in Paris, world-famous party hosts Gerald and Sara Murphy held an extravagant bash on a barge on the Seine River. The couple served as muses for F. Scott Fitzgerald when he was writing his now-legendary novel The Great Gatsby.
The guests at the party were not your average Joe. Some of the most famous and renowned people of their time, including Cole Porter, Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Marcelle Meyer attended. Champagne flowed endlessly throughout the night as everyone socialized and mingled with one another. Picasso found particular inspiration in Sara Murphy’s tables decorated with tin cars and dolls – an influence that would later be seen heavily in his artworks. The party was legendary among its attendees and went down in history as one of the best parties of the 1920s European scene.
