The Beatles became one of the most famous examples of a band leaving live performances behind while continuing to create music. After quitting touring in 1966 because of overwhelming crowds and pressure, they focused on albums like Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), changing the direction of popular music. John Lennon also stopped performing live after 1974.
