These tortoises were threatened with extinction
There was a period when tortoises weren’t endangered until people began to encroach on critical habitats and ecosystems. However, by the 1990s, their population had decreased to a mere 12 million. Even while it seems vast, the size of our world puts it in perspective.
At the end of 2010, the population had fallen to 6 million, and it has continued to decrease ever since. 9,000 tortoises were kept in a tiny home. If they had perished, the population would have suffered greatly.
