The Role of Asia in the Development of Contemporary Nursing
Beginning in 1965 and continuing for the next twenty years, almost one hundred thousand nurses immigrated to the United States. A significant number of the qualified nurses that were required for this endeavour came from the Philippines. Despite the fact that many Filipino nurses had immigrated to the United States after World War II had concluded, it wasn’t until 1965 that revisions in American immigration law permitted hospitals to hire foreign nurses and provide green cards to them. This was despite many Filipino nurses had already immigrated to the United States.
A curriculum that was based on American standards was implemented in Philippine schools, and there was an increase in the number of students taking English studies. These days, Filipino nurses constitute a sizable proportion of nursing employment in the United States. A group known as the National Federation of Philippines Nurses Associations has assisted nurses based in this community (NFPNA).
