#5: Sovereign’s Orb – British Monarchs (United Kingdom)
The Sovereign’s Orb is a gold sphere topped with a cross, presented during coronations to symbolize authority under Christian tradition. It was made in 1661 for Charles II and appears in the coronation ritual after the monarch is crowned. The design reflects medieval ideas of global sovereignty under divine oversight. It is usually held in the monarch’s left hand during the ceremony. Today, it is stored with the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.
