#2: Integrated Garages
Integrated garages might be commonplace in today’s homes, but split-levels helped make them a staple of the housing market. Prior to this, garages were unattached, if they existed at all, requiring people to go outside when exiting their cars. This wasn’t ideal from a safety standpoint, especially at night. Fun fact: The two-car garage gained popularity in the 1970s, driven by the rise in car ownership. Nowadays, three-car garages are typically sought by homebuyers, including two-car families, as the ideal garage has room for cars, lawn equipment, tools, and the donations you’ve been meaning to drop off at Goodwill for months.
