Slimer from The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991) and Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters (1988-1990) expanded a minor movie ghost into a major cartoon mascot. Inspired by Ghostbusters (1984), he mainly delivered food jokes and squeaks. As children’s television embraced toy sales and comic sidekicks, Slimer became a symbol of unnecessary relief.
