Founded around 3,000 BCE, Sidon was a major Phoenician port, central to the spread of maritime trade and culture. Its ancient glassmaking and purple dye industries made it rich and famous. Today, fishermen and shopkeepers still work the same harbors, living side by side with ruins of temples and crusader castles.
