George shared with Edward that his mother had given him an explanation of how the family had been impacted by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and how they had lost their property there. George relayed this information to Edward. That they were required to move to a different region of the country, and that Edward was expected to not only find a way to pay for his schooling but also to take care of his mother in addition to the expectation that he would find a way to support the family financially.
He addressed Edward with the words, “You’ve been through enough, haven’t you, son?” in relation to the things that Edward has gone through. Before handing Edward what appeared to be something quite unimportant, he gave the boy one final wink of the eye to indicate that he was ready. Edward was overcome with feeling after going through the processes of studying them, and he began crying as a result.
