Don’t Even Try
When you, as a parent, don’t believe in your child, they know it. You can try as hard as you want to mask the fact that you don’t think they’ll succeed, but some way or another, they’ll learn the truth. That fake smile you put on while cheering, “You go, son/daughter!” will only break hearts.
This person learned that their dad had no faith that they’d make it into the best Catholic school in the area. Maybe it’s because the standards were too high and they knew enough about the OP’s intelligence to believe. Or maybe it’s because the OP is a heathen who would burn up as soon as they stepped foot in the school. Who knows?
