#12: It’s More Complicated Than That
There’s a tendency that some people have to equate wealth with people’s character: if a person is poor, maybe it is because they didn’t try hard enough to earn more money. In reality, poverty is a very complicated state of being that can be affected by a wide variety of factors that are beyond one’s control.
Effort and hard work may have little or nothing to do with someone’s financial situation. The point is, it’s not helpful to think that the poor don’t deserve any help because it’s their own fault they’re poor. As in many things, the truth of the situation is much more complex.
