#14: Skylab, the United States’ first space station, is launched. (May 14)
Launched by NASA from Cape Canaveral, Florida, Skylab, America’s first in-orbit space station, was occupied for about 24 weeks between May 1973 and February 1974. After hundreds of experiments and contributions to aerospace engineering, Skylab’s orbit eventually decayed, scattering its debris across the Indian Ocean and Western Australia.
