#14: A First for Autoland
In 1965, the autoland feature–a fully automated landing system that allows a flight crew to supervise as opposed to controlling the landing process–was first used on a commercial flight from London to Paris. This success meant that commercial flights could now touch down in less-than-favorable weather conditions that would have otherwise been difficult, or even impossible, to land in.
