#8: Dallol, Ethiopia
Dallol is not a cozy kind of beautiful. It is acidic, hot, sulfurous, and visually outrageous. Hydrothermal activity in Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression produces yellow crusts, greenish pools, salt formations, steaming vents, and colors that look radioactive even when they are simply mineral chemistry behaving dramatically. The place feels like a warning label with a view. If Earth has a laboratory for hostile beauty, Dallol is probably on staff.
