Spotted Lake changes personality with the season. In summer, much of its water evaporates, leaving behind mineral-rich circular pools in shades of blue, green, yellow, and brown. The “spots” are caused by concentrated minerals such as magnesium sulfate and other salts. The result looks less like a normal lake than a planet’s skin under a microscope. It is also culturally significant to the Syilx/Okanagan people, so the wonder comes with respect attached.
