#7: The Migrating Dunes of White Sands National Park
Footprints can disappear overnight in southern New Mexico, followed by the path that carried them. White Sands contains the world’s largest gypsum dune field, a bright landscape created after minerals were left behind in the enclosed Tularosa Basin and gradually broken into sand-sized grains. Strong winds push loose dunes mainly toward the northeast, sometimes moving their crests several feet during a particularly windy day or night.
