#8: Monaco and Monte Carlo
Monaco was made for the Jet Set because it had the essential ingredients: yachts, casinos, cliffs, tax advantages, and a princess who had once been Grace Kelly. Monte Carlo turned gambling into costume drama, and the harbor made wealth visible in floating form. The place was tiny, but its aura was enormous. If the Riviera had a stage set for champagne, roulette, and flashbulbs, Monaco handled the lighting.
