#3: Hollywood Squares (1966)
What could go wrong with a giant version of the board game Tic-Tac-Toe–minus the Xs and Os, plus celebrities ready to fire one-liners and other zingers? Hollywood Squares was a comedy/gameshow hybrid that debuted in 1966, with contestants choosing squares to answer questions and win a row across the board.

Although Paul Lynde often held court in the center square, the game was mostly about the jokes, with the celebrities goading one another on to the funniest answers. It didn’t really matter if you were watching to laugh or to try to play along; Hollywood Squares had something to offer to everyone.
