I’m Not a Regular Mom; I’m a Cool Mom
While being friends with our kids is important, there’s a difference between parenting and friendship, and mixing up both can be dangerous. Some parents don’t like the idea of being too strict with their kids and will choose to behave as their friends rather than their parents, exposing them to things “regular” parents wouldn’t with the excuse that “I am your friend.”

Keeping things balanced while parenting is vital, as being too strict can be unhealthy, and so can being too liberal. This person’s mother probably didn’t realize she was harming her daughter by being too close and acting as a friend rather than her parent. We often teach more with what we allow than what we forbid.
