Double Standards
Raising boys and girls together can be tricky, as parents can easily set double standards between siblings of different genders. It’s important to understand that, for example, by allowing boys not to clean up while girls have to do all the work, they’re learning how to perpetuate outdated gender roles – and even how they will eventually behave when sharing a space with their partners.
Educating siblings about fairness and equality will help them develop a better relationship with each other. Part of creating positive, peaceful homes and families is teaching children to love and honor one another, and that’s only possible if favoritism and stiff gender rules are not set.
