Playful teasing between parents and children can have positive effects, but mocking important subjects can lead to mistrust, anger, and anxiety. Before parents make teasing a part of their relationship with their children, they should consider if it won’t affect them negatively.

The line between teasing and mocking can be very thin, and parents’ insensitive comments about a particular subject can even feel like bullying – and who wants to be bullied in their own house? Playfulness is vital in our relationship with children, but we need to police ourselves not to cross the line into something less pleasant.
