Words Have Power
Learning how to deal with our mistakes is hard, but learning how to deal with our kid’s mistakes is a whole other level. We’re not always in the mood for encouragement, beautiful lessons, or life advice, and the risk of saying the wrong thing and marking them for life is significant. But we must remember that words have power:
If I forget to get my partner’s coffee in the morning, does that automatically make me a bad spouse? It doesn’t make much sense, does it? That’s because we can’t define our whole personality based on our mistakes, and trying to do that to children is just setting them up for a life of low self-esteem and frustration. Embracing their mistakes and stages of development shows they’re much more than that.
