No Serious Talks Allowed
A 2020 study showed that 60% of parents said that the topic of “the birds and the bees” was ‘taboo’ when they were growing up, and 20% of parents said they would still not discuss it with their children. This scenario presents many more problems than we think, as failing to talk about important subjects with our kids can lead to mistrust on their part.
I think every parent has a hard time dealing with their kids growing up, often thinking, “why can’t they stay innocent forever?” But having a kid does not constitute only those magical years of Disney princesses and imaginary friends, as we are also raising the adults of the future. If our kids don’t feel safe sharing serious things with us, they won’t feel safe sharing them with anyone later.
