#7: The “Asteroid Impact” Audio Drama (1988)
A syndicated West Coast radio thriller aired a story in 1988 about a massive asteroid hitting the Pacific Ocean. It was produced in a docudrama style, complete with what sounded like real Coast Guard distress calls and expert commentary. Once again, people flooded 911 with calls, fearing a tidal wave was imminent. The volume of panicked calls forced regulators to pull the episode from circulation permanently.
