#10: The Pocket Fiddle (Kit Violin)
Measuring significantly smaller than a standard violin with a narrow, elongated body, this highly specialized instrument was tucked directly into coat pockets by traveling dance callers and frontier fiddlers. Its bright, piercing treble projection cut through noisy tavern crowds, but its restricted acoustic range made it impractical once full-sized fiddles became widely available.
