#13: The On the Road Scroll by Jack Kerouac (1951)
Kerouac taped together rolls of paper and typed this first draft over three feverish weeks in April 1951, producing a 120-foot scroll that let him write without stopping to change pages. It sold at Christie’s in 2001 for $2.43 million. Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, kept and toured it publicly for two decades before it sold again in March 2026 to country artist Zach Bryan for $12.1 million.
