An Englishwoman caused a medical sensation when she convinced doctors she had given birth to rabbits. Physicians—including the king’s own—examined her and initially believed the hoax. When exposed, the scandal embarrassed England’s medical establishment and made Toft infamous. Her bizarre deception remains one of history’s strangest cases of mass gullibility.
