#9: Julia Pastrana (1834–1860)
Born with hypertrichosis, which covered her face and body with hair, Julia was cruelly exhibited as the “Bearded Lady.” Yet beyond exploitation, she was multilingual and musically gifted. Tragically, she died young during childbirth. Her embalmed body was displayed for decades—until eventually being returned to her native Mexico for a proper burial.
