#20: The Final Exodus
The nightmare scenario is not that Venice disappears under water tomorrow. It is that residents disappear first. A “ghost city” can still have lights, restaurants, hotels, gondolas, and crowds. What it lacks is ordinary life. That is the real fear behind the pushback: Venice surviving as a brand while dying as a community. Tourists may still come. Cameras may still click. But who, exactly, will be home?
