Off With Their Heads
You may not remember Buzz Lightyear’s tea party in Toy Story, but it has significant historical referencing riddled throughout it. As he becomes part of Andy’s toy collection, Buzz finds himself not saving different universes, but rather being played with, which is a big change of pace for the space fighter. But it’s not just the flower hat that he is wearing that makes this scene a little weird.
As a kid, this joke did not land. And that’s ok, I don’t think we were meant to understand it. But the fact that now we do is mind-blowing, thanks to this Reddit thread above. Chances are that when you first saw this film you weren’t well versed in French history and the French Revolution, I mean, what nine-year-old was? We just thought that the dolls’ heads are gone is because, you know, kids.
