#8: Keeping Misdelivered Mail Can Be Problematic

Mail addressed to someone else is not yours to keep, even if it arrives at your home. Federal law treats the intentional retention or opening of misdelivered mail as a potential offense. The appropriate step is to return it to the postal service or mark it as delivered to the wrong address. Treating it as a free windfall can lead to complications.
